In July, the current chair of Astronomy in Colour, Munira Hoosein, spoke on her research at an SAAO Colloquium. Munira, who is a PhD student at the University of Cape Town and SAAO, studies the effect of gas accretion from the cosmic web on neutral hydrogen (HI) in galaxies using ECO (Environmental COntext survey) and RESOLVE (Spectroscopy Of a Local VolumE survey). In future, she will make use of LADUMA (Looking at the Distant Universe with the MeerKAT Array) survey data to constrain the cosmic HI density. Her project is being supervised by Assoc. Prof. Sarah Blyth and Dr. Ros Skelton. See her SAAO Colloquium below.
