Nicole Thomas is a SARAO PhD candidate at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and uses supercomputer simulations to study the role supermassive black holes play in the evolution of galaxies. She focuses on understanding how supermassive black holes grow and how their feedback affects their environments.
Nicole obtained a BSc Physics through UWC and went on to complete her BSc (honours) and MSc through the National Astrophysics and Space Science Program at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and UWC respectively and has been fortunate enough to spend significant periods of her MSc and PhD at the Universities of Oxford and Edinburgh.
When she’s not working on her research, you can find Nicole out for a run, surfing, hiking, playing squash, or trying out a new sport or adventure as the opportunity comes along.
