A/Prof. Shazrene S. Mohamed is a computational stellar astrophysicist and has a joint position at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and the University of Cape Town (UCT), where she is an Adj. Associate Professor. She received her Bachelors degree at Harvard University in Astrophysics and Mathematics, and completed her PhD in Astrophysics at Oxford University.
She loves teaching and working with students on research. Her research focus is dying stars and their interactions with their surroundings and/or nearby companion stars. Using 3D supercomputer simulations she investigates stellar wind interactions, mass transfer in binary star systems and stellar explosions such as novae and supernovae.
